All about...Hand dyeing: Part Two - Procion MX dyes

Dyeing your own yarn is a quick way to customise your hand knits and produce a "one-of-a-kind" piece! No fancy designing skills are required and you can use a favourite knitting or crochet pattern.

The Spring 2007 issue of Simply Knitting magazine is in the shops now and contains part two of the brand new three part series All About...Hand-dyeing by Debbie Tomkies.

Following on from the guide to Kool Aid dyeing in part one, this month Debbie focuses on the use of Procion MX dyes. These versatile dyes come in an excellent range of colours and are ideal for beginners or those looking to move on from food based dyes such as Kool Aid.

Choose an undyed, natural yarn in a similar gauge to your pattern, follow the simple instructions and you'll have your own unique garment in no time.

Part three of the series will cover natural dyeing, including the easy to use Earthues natural dye extracts.

Simply Knitting magazine is published by Future Publishing and is available at all good newsagents. If you would like to subscribe to this magazine please call 0870 837 4722 or go to www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk
