Knit 123 - Ministry Of CraftTuesday 29th January, 5th & 12th February 2013 There has never been a better time to pick up those needles - Knitting is big! And whether you're a complete beginner or just need to remember what to do we're making it as easy as 1,2,3. Debbie Tomkies will take you step by step through learning the basics, leaving you confident and wanting more! In this beginners course designed by Debbie you'll learn everything you need to know, including casting on and off, basic knit and purl stitches, how to combine stitches to create patterns and how to increase and decrease your knitting. |

Would you like to be able to create your own, unique yarns, bursting with vibrant colour? Debbie's fun course is suitable for complete beginners as well as for those who simply want to brush up on their skills or just have a fun day out playing with colour! |

Wheel Spinning for BeginnersSaturday 16th February 2013, 11am-5pm Learn how to spin your own yarn on a wheel! This class is for people who have perhaps mastered spindling, and are ready to try transferring their skills onto a wheel. By the end, students should feel confident and inspired at drafting and treadling at the same time. Cost includes materials and use of spinning wheels though students are welcome to bring in their own wheels. |

Ancient worlds – spinning at the MuseumTuesday 19th February 2013 If you happen to be in the Manchester area over half term, on Tuesday 19th February 2013 Debbie will be doing a day of family-friendly spinning activities at the Manchester Museum. Entry is free and there will be the chance for kids to try a bit of handspinning, watch spinning demonstrations and try to guess the fibre. And for the non-spinners (is there such a thing?) be sure to check out the amazing mummies and not forgetting the fabulous dinosaurs. |

Knit 456 - Ministry Of CraftTuesday 12th, 19th & 26th March 2013 So if you're confident with basic knitting or you've already been on our popular Knit 123 course it's time to take your knitting to the next level! Get creative with tutor Debbie Tomkies, who will take you through knitting in the round which is perfect for socks, gorgeous textured pattern stitches and basic lace knitting, giving your future knits a whole new look and shape! You learn practical knitting too, including alternative ways to cast on and off and finishing and seaming techniques. To put your new skills into practise we'll be throwing in patterns to help you get started. |

Learn To Crochet - Ministry Of CraftTuesday 2nd, 9th & 16th April 2013 PLEASE NOTE NEW DATES The most minimal craft around - just one hook and a ball of yarn and you're crocheting before you know it! Forget all that complicated jargon, Debbie Tomkies will take the mystery out of making a basic chain and how to create double, treble and half treble stitches - all of which are the basic foundation of how to crochet. We'll also show you how to increase and decrease stitches, as well as reading a simple pattern and keep the edges of your work nice and straight. There'll be plenty of time to ask questions and get all the advice, hints and tips you need to feel fully confident in the art of crochet. You'll put all your efforts from sessions 1 and 2 to good use by crocheting a flower brooch - ready to wear - by the end of the final session. So, come along and make yourself a cuppa and relax after work on this fun, sociable finger-clicking good course! |

Blank Canvas DyeingSaturday 13th April 2013, 11am-5pm Learn how to dye knitted fabric blanks (sock blanks) for knitting, crochet and weaving. During the first half of the workshop students will learn about dyeing techniques, colour cards and make a few mini skeins. The second half the workshop students will paint a full sock blank, or two! The cost of the workshop includes materials needed for the workshop. |

Indigo WorkshopSaturday 25th May 2013 Explore nature’s beautiful blues in this exciting one-day workshop. Debbie will be showing participants how to set up their own indigo or woad vat and there will be the opportunity to dye yarns, fibres, fleece or fabrics as well as the chance to try some simple tying and resist-based techniques. |

Funky Felted JewelleryFriday 13th - Monday 16th September 2013 Have a go at wet-felting making felted necklaces, bracelets, beads and brooches. Play with colour, shape and texture, embellish with beads and thread and create something both beautiful and unique (just in time for those Christmas presents!). |

Hand dyeing talk, workshop and shopSaturday 12th & Sunday 13th October 2013 Debbie will be presenting a talk on Dyes Past and Present, an insight into the fascinating history of dyes and dyeing, how it shaped economies and transformed the landscape of modern day chemistry. Followed by a dyeing demonstration putting the theory into practice! On day two of this fun weekend, participants will be creating colour palettes, learning about colour planning and creating colour schemes as well as having lots of fun dyeing yarns, fibres and fleeces using a range of exciting techniques. |

Did you know?I teach a wide range of workshops on dyeing, knitting and crochet and am happy to travel to your group, Guild, school or college to teach a subject - or combination of subjects - of your choice. Courses can be for as few as four students, up to around 15 and you may book half a day, a day, weekend or even longer! I can also bring my "travelling shop" with a wide selection of our products to your meetings. I am available to teach evening classes/regular classes for colleges.
