Description

Potassium hydrogen tartrate (also known as cream of tartar) is a by-product of the wine-making process. It has several uses in natural dyeing.

It is naturally slightly acidic and can be used as a mild water softener in hard water areas

Some dyers find that it is also useful as a softener for wool fibres

A colour modifier, shifting the colours with some natural dyes. For example, cochineal will shift from pinks towards reds with the addition of potassium hydrogen tartrate to the dyebath or with modification after the dyeing process. Madder will shift towards orange

It's Holiday Time!

Last posting dates:

We’ll be posting those stocking fillers and last-minute gifts (we’ve all been there!) for orders placed before 12.30pm on 23rd December. However, last posting date is 21st December so it may be that orders may not arrive in time for the ‘big day’. If you need a last-minute gift or you’re not sure what to get we do have gift vouchers in the shop!

Christmas holiday

As it’s Christmas we are then taking a bit of a break and the shop will be closed until 4th Jan 2026.You may still place orders (simply close this window with the ‘X’ or escape to return to the shop) but we will not start dispatching orders until 4th January.
