Description

Baby Merino Aran is a beautifully soft blend of baby alpaca and 21 micron merino wool. Baby Alpaca is one of the most luxurious fabrics in the world. It is incredibly warm, light weight and strong. It has hypoallergenic properties, it contains no lanolin, which makes the fibre safe to wear if you have skin allergies. Alpaca is said to be three times warmer than sheep’s wool as the fibres have excellent insulation properties whilst remaining light and breathable. The baby alpaca is combined in equal measure with fine merino giving the yarn more bounce and elasticity.

This undyed yarn is beautiful in its natural colour but it looks equally beautiful dyed with our acid, procion mx (fibre reactive), natural or indigo dyes. It has a soft halo which makes it ideally suited to soft, muted colours.

Top tip:

‘If you are hand-dyeing this yarn and are looking for a deeper shade, make sure you ‘cook’ it to a high temperature as the colour intensifies with the heat. It is surprisingly tolerant of heat, just be careful not to overhandle while it’s hot and allow it to cool completely before rinsing in warm water’.

For a nice gift you could pair this yarn with one of our easy-to-use starter kits which contain all you need to start your first hand-dyeing project!

The merino is mulesing free and comes from South America. The yarn is 100% animal fibre and perfect for dyeing.
