Magical Rainbows food colour hand-dyeing kit

£15.00

Availability: 5 in stock (can be backordered)

How does it work?

Synthetic food colours can be used with citric acid or vinegar and heat to colour yarn so we’ve created this super-fun kit with all you need to give it a go!

Is it easy?

Yes! The colours are ready to use and there’s no need to add any extra fixer (it’s already in the pots) so you just need to add water and go. It really is super-easy, quick and fun to do and produces amazing results. Simply soak your yarn or fibre (not included in the kit), mix up your colours with just tapwater and squirt it on! Heat the yarn and let it cool. When you rinse it you’ll unveil your amazing, one-of-a-kind, hand-dyed yarn!

What can I dye?

You can dye just about any yarn, fibre or fabric made from animal fibre – wool, alpaca, angora, mohair (and also silk).

Does the colour last?

Yes! Once the item has been fixed and rinsed it can be washed as normal (we suggest hand-washing but a wool cycle in your machine should be fine).

What’s included in the kit:

Your dye kit includes:

  • 3 pots of ready-to-use food colour dyes -primary colours red, yellow and blue
  • 3 squeezy bottles to apply the dye
  • 1 mini-funnel for filling the bottles
  • Full dyeing instructions
  • 2.5ml/5ml measuring spoon
  • Powder-free vinyl gloves.
  • Easy to follow, comprehensive dyeing instructions

Who is this kit suitable for?

We’ve included all the essentials in the kit and the instructions are based on my beginner’s dyeing workshop so are suitable for first-time dyers as well as offering lots of fun for dyers with some experience.

What else will I need?

Just some basic equipment most of which you may already have. Please note that any utensils/dishes used for dyeing should not be used for cooking food afterwards:

  • A pan, microwave dish or oven tray for cooking your hand-dyed yarn
  • Cloths and something to cover surfaces
  • A couple of plastic beakers (or old cups) for mixing dyes
  • Stirring spoon or stick

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Whilst the dyes in this kit are food dyes, they also contain the fixer (citric acid) so are not suitable for food use or for consumption.
