Print, Tie, Resist - Creative Ways to Dye Fabric with Natural Dyes
Join dye expert Debbie Tomkies in our fabulous studios, as she shows you how to create beautiful printed fabrics using colours from natural plant extracts using simple techniques you can repeat at home.
The course is suitable for complete beginners. For those who have done some natural dyeing previously, there is plenty to explore too!
What will you learn on the day:
After a short introduction to the history of natural dyes and learning how they are used and prepared, you’ll be creating a fabulous set of cotton fabric samples, using a range of exciting techniques including tie dye, print and resist.
You’ll be able to take your fabric samples home to make a small project or stitch your fabrics into a sampler..After lunch Debbie will be introducing you to more techniques including stitched resist, folding and clamping and you will be able to explore how to combine natural dyes and use over-printing to widen your colour palette and achieve some fabulous results.
You will finish the day creating a beautiful silk scarf to take home, dyed using your choice of techniques and colours.
Do I need to bring anything?
There is a lovely cafe on site and other eateries within a short walk or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch.
Everything else is included – fabric, dyes, even gloves and an apron.
PLEASE NOTE – This might get messy, so don’t wear your favourite pair of white jeans!
