Having fun creating colour - naturally!
We had a lovely time at the studio on my Introduction to Natural Dyeing workshop. It was a productive day with so many gorgeous colours and combinations emerging from the dyepots.
My students took home their rainbow sample cards, learned about colour modifiers and tried out a range of fun techniques including dipping, painting, low water and immersion dyeing.
With a 50g skein of yarn for their first practice plus another 100g from our wide range of undyed yarns, they went home with plenty of yarn to make something special!
There was much surprise at how the colour range with natural dyes can be extended using simple modification techniques.
On the workshop we used our natural dye extracts and the sample cards were produced using our Rainbows from Nature kit.
Oh, and I realised that the kit contains cochineal so isn’t suitable for vegans (doh!). If you’d like to buy one but would prefer not to use cochineal, I’m happy to swap with brazilwood which isn’t quite the same bubblegum pink but produces lovely burgundies and dusky rose pinks (and is amazing with modifiers!). Just pop a note in the box at the checkout.
You can see the colours that can be achieved on the natural dye extracts page here).
If the lovely pictures have piqued your interest, the late summer and autumn timetable is currently being listed so do take a look at the calendar. There will be both in person and online workshops available so I hope you can join me!
